Add your support to Southend's city bid

TWO Southend United stars have helped plug a website which is promoting Southend’s bid for city status.

Shrimpers stars Bilel Mohsni and skipper Craig Easton urged residents to back the bid as Southend Council launched a new city bid website.

City status is the prize on offer in a competition which is being staged to mark the Queen’s 2012 Diamond Jubilee.

Residents can register their support for the town – and earn the chance to win goodies – by visiting www.cityonsea.com Southend’s bid is being put together by a partnership which includes the council, the Echo, community leaders, key businesses and organisations from the voluntary, faith, private and public sectors.

It will highlight progress made in the borough over the past five years, including regeneration and improvements in education and economic opportunities.

Visitors to the website can watch a video which showcases the town in all its glory.

There is also footage of the British Olympic diving team practising for London 2012 at the new Southend Swimming and Diving Centre.

There is also the chance to win prizes, including a signed Southend United shirt, a pair of match tickets for a Blues game, a chance to sit in on the Southend Radio breakfast show, an opportunity to read the weather forecast at Southend Radio and a Southend Radio studio tour and goodie bag.
